It is as easy as

HPC & Family Support

At HPC we practice "Family Support," an asset-based, universal, preventive set of activities. Each year the Center helps more than 1,700 families play, share and learn together.

Our programs:

  • Develop Assets: all families have strengths and they build on those strengths when they participate in HPC programs.

  • Are open to all: everyone is challenged by raising children and can use support to help them grow to their fullest potential.

No parent has to have a deficit or be in crisis to participate in family support programming.

  • Provide Resources: families share with and learn from other families, observe how staff and other parents interact with their children, borrow books from our Parenting Resource Library, find information about community resources.

  • Reduce Stress: Parents attending family support programs develop an enhanced community support system that reduces their isolation, provides new ideas and strategies and gives them a safe and engaging place to interact with their children.

No parent has to feel alone with the pressures of childrearing.

  • Enhance Skills & Confidence: Interacting with other parents, talking with staff, attending parenting discussion groups, support groups, and using the Resource Library all provide ways to learn new skills about raising children.

Parents also gain confidence in their own abilities to decide what is best for their family.

  • Invest in the Future: HPC programs prevent problems by offering resources, connections and support before a crisis arises.

Research shows that family support programs are a very cost effective way to reduce child abuse, delinquency, school failure and placement in special education.

By supporting the wellness of the family unit, Family Support programs strengthen the community.

Family Support Consortium

HPC is a member of the Greater Cleveland Family Support Consortium.

The purpose of the Consortium is to promote and coordinate family support initiatives that strengthen families and build communities.

The Values

  • Empower families to build on their strengths and develop their capacity to nurture their children
  • Involve family members as full partners rather than treat them as clients
  • Respect cultural, ethnic, religious and family diversity Create comfortable, supportive settings in which families can work on child-raising issues
  • Offer opportunities for families to interact, learn from, and support one another, to reduce isolation and stress
  • Provide programs and services which respond to the changing priorities and needs of families
  • Work in partnership with other resources to ensure accessible and comprehensive services to families in our communities.
