Family-School Connection

HPC staff, called Family Liaisons, will work directly in CH-UH elementary schools to reach out to parents. The Family Liaisons work with parents as supportive peers. Their role is to make connections with families, encourage their participation in school events and in HPC offerings, and help them connect with outside community resources so that the families are strengthened from within and through the creation of a network of support in their schools, neighborhood and community. A variety of programs which focus on family literacy and parenting skills will be offered at each of the schools during the school year.

Our Goals: Provide support to parents so that their children will be successful in school.

Help families increase their children's school readiness and reading skills.

Provide elementary school parents opportunities to get to know and gain support from each other.

Provide tutoring and support to students in school.

Host weekly and monthly family events for parents and their young children which promote and improve family literacy.

Play-A-Day

Parenting Resource Library
Parent Resource Libraries

Heights Parent Center is opening mini- parent centers in each of the CH-UH elementary schools.  The centers will be staffed by HPC Family Liaisons assigned to each school and will contain a library full of resources for parents:  books, DVD’s and activities for parents to borrow.  Each center will also offer a place for parents to gather, share a cup of coffee or tea, and chat.  The center libraries are generously supported by the Ronald and Isabel Brown Fund of the Jewish Community Federation.  Mr. Brown, a former president of the CH-UH Board of Education, established the fund to support parent involvement in the schools.
